Zreče, 04 August (STA) - Unitur, the tourism branch of tools maker Unior, generated EUR 19.7 million in revenue last year, 5% more than in 2017 and nearly 3% above plans, the annual business report shows. The operator of the Rogla ski resort and the nearby Terme Zreče spa was EUR 750,000 in the red at the end of 2018, 25% less than the year before.
The revenue generated by Terme Zreče accounted for just over a half of total revenue and was up by nearly 7%. Rogla also saw an increase in revenue, is its sales went up by 3%.
In total, the two resorts logged 198,600 tourist nights, which was nearly level with 2017. Foreign guests accounted for 38% of all and the company aims to increase the share to 50% in 2020.
Unior has been trying to find a buyer for Unitur, which is burdened by loans stemming from investments in hotels and other infrastructure at the resorts.
Unitur's other key markets are the countries of the former Yugoslavia, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Russia and Austria. The company is also striving to attract more guests from the Benelux countries, Israel, Czechia, Slovakia and the Middle East.
Employing some 360 people, the company expects to generate EUR 20.5 million this year, while the loss will expectedly be halved to under EUR 400,000.
