Ljubljana, 26 June (STA) - Tourism facilities have recorded almost 2.2m overnight stays in the first four months, up 1% from the same period in 2013. On the other hand, the number of foreign tourists visiting Slovenia in April increased by 17% compared to last April, the Statistics Office said on Thursday.
Foreign tourists generated 64% of all overnight stays in Slovenia in April, most of them coming from Italy, Austria, Germany, Russia, Serbia and Croatia.
The increase in the number of foreign tourists in April could be attributed to the fact that Easter holidays fell on April this year, while last year they were celebrated in March, the Statistics Office estimates.
Municipalities with thermal resorts recorded some 244,000 overnight stays, which was 11% more than last April. Following were municipalities on the coast with almost 140,000 overnight stays.
Municipalities in the highlands have on the other hand generated almost 87,000 overnight stays, which was 5% more than April 2013, while the capital of Ljubljana alone saw almost 74,000 tourists that spent the night here.
All together, hotels have so far recorded almost 802,000 arrivals, who generated some 2.18m overnight stays over the first four months of this year.
There was a 2% drop in arrivals among Slovenian tourists in the first four months, while the number of arrivals among foreign tourists increased by 7%.
