Ljubljana, 30 August (STA) - The Statistics Office has reported that the survey unemployment rate for the second quarter of the year was at 4.2%, which is a whole percentage point down compared to the same period last year and close to the lowest rate ever recorded, the 4.1% rate observed in the third quarter of 2008.
The rate for the April-June period was meanwhile down by 0.6 of a percentage points compared to the first quarter of 2019.
The survey by the Statistics Office shows that the number of unemployed people and of people in employment was almost the same as eleven years ago, just as the financial and economic crisis was about to start.
There were some 43,000 unemployed people in the second quarter of the year, a 19.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2018.
The number of long-term unemployed persons (unemployed for at least twelve months) stood at 20,000, which is a drop of 22.4% year-on-year. The number of people unemployed for less than 12 months was down by 16.5% to 24,000.
The number of employed persons was meanwhile up by 0.7% compared to the first quarter of the year to 991,000.
