Novo Mesto, 10 December (STA) - French car maker Renault will launch the Renault Clio, Twingo and Twingo Electric, models manufactured at its Novo Mesto assembly plant Revoz, in a special I Feel Slovenia series available only in Slovenia. Revoz and the Economy Ministry deem the step a major contribution to the promotion of Slovenia and its automotive industry.
Renault started cooperating with the Slovenian tourism brand I Feel Slovenia in 2017 when a special version of the fourth-generation Clio received Slovenia's main tourism slogan. The model was launched only in Slovenia.
The decision transpired to be wise, given that the model accounted for 20% of all Clios sold that year even though the vehicle came with the costliest trim.
The fifth generation Clio, city car Twingo and its electric version will be now launched in a version bearing the slogan I Feel Slovenia. The Twingo Electric is the first all-electric Renault made in Slovenia. The model has been manufactured in Novo Mesto since September.
Renault aims to strengthen the role of the car assembly plant Revoz as an advanced, high-quality and innovative car manufacturer using the three models, Francois Delion, the head of Renault Nissan Adriatic, said at today's online press conference.
Economy Minister Zdravko Počivalšek welcomed the step and expressed satisfaction over Renault combining the top solutions of Slovenia's automotive industry and its tourism brand. I Feel Slovenia promotes environmentally-friendly, creative and innovative solutions, he noted.
The car industry is a major part of Slovenia's economy, generating roughly 10% of the country's GDP and employing some 40,000 people, he said, adding that R&D investments made it competitive on the global market.
Revoz is a major employer in the region and plays an important role in local and well as wider communities the minister said, highlighting that the plant reported EUR 1.8 billion in net sales in 2019, of which more than 98% in foreign markets, and boasted high value added per employee.
