Ljubljana, 27 December (STA) - Mobile telephony penetration in Slovenia continues to rise even though it has already exceeded 100%. In the third quarter of 2009 it rose 0.5 percentage points over the previous quarter to 101.7%, according to the quarterly report of the Agency for Post and Electronic Communications.
Mobile providers' market shares have remained almost level, but they show a clear trend away from the market leader towards smaller providers, the market watchdog's report says.
Mobitel, part of the state-owned Telekom Slovenije, remains the biggest operator with 57.2% of all active mobile users, down from 57.6% in the previous quarter and a drop of over three points year-on-year.
Simobil remains the no. 2, but its share dropped from 28.2% to 27.9%, ending a long period of growth.
Tusmobil is the fastest growing provider and now accounts for 7.3% of all active users, followed by VMNOs Debitel (4.4%) and Izimobil (2.4%), and the newcomer T-2 (0.7%).
