Ljubljana, 15 February (STA) - The Agency for Communication Networks and Services (AKOS) has received four bids for wireless spectrum, including bands set aside for 5G mobile networks. The bidders and their offers remain anonymous until the auction, which is scheduled for March or April.
The four bids received by Monday's deadline are for spectrum in the 700 MHz, 1500 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 3600 MHz and 26 GHz bands. A portion of the 700 MHz, 3600 MHz and 26 GHz bands is dedicated to 5G.
Major Slovenian providers are already offering 5G services on their existing networks, but given the expected surge in data traffic they need more spectrum in the future.
AKOS predicts that the frequencies will be allocate by the middle of the year, whereupon operators must put them to use within a year.
