Export-oriented companies awarded economy ambassador title

Ljubljana, 18 June (STA) - The trade and investment promotion agency Spirit has awarded 19 export-oriented companies the title of ambassadors of the Slovenian economy, in a bid to encourage them to promote Slovenia internationally as a technologically advanced and green country.

Ajda Cuderman, the director of the public agency, said at Thursday's ceremony that Spirit had recognised the companies as possessing all key advantages of the Slovenian economy.

According to her, they are exceptional companies which offer unique products and services with a high added value.

"With their solutions, they will contribute to the promotion of Slovenia as a technologically advanced and creatively oriented green country and help create a stable and progressive business environment," Cuderman added.

It is much easier for companies to enter foreign markets if the country they come from is highly recognised and appreciated there, she said, adding that the I feel Slovenia brand had also become a synonym for successful business stories.

The recognised companies include exhaust maker Akrapovič, shoe maker Alpina, sports equipment producer Elan, dairy Ljubljanske Mlekarne, metrology company Lotrič Meroslovje, port operator Luka Koper and aircraft maker Pipistrel.

Marko Lotrič, the owner and director general of Lotrič Meroslovje, said that the company was present in seven foreign countries, and that it would thus have ample opportunity to promote Slovenia internationally.

Maja Kalan Pongrac of Ljubljanske Mlekarne added that the company, as a large exporter, was able to promote Slovenia effectively. "Being an ambassador of the Slovenian economy is a long-term win for all employees," she added.

The ambassadors, which have been selected based on a public call for applications published in January, will be joined by an additional 20 ambassadors in the autumn after a new call for applications.

Economy Ministry State Secretary Simon Zajc said that these companies would make Slovenia even more recognisable on the global map, adding that the "Green. Creative. Smart." slogan emphasised what had turned out to be of key importance during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Also presented at the event was a virtual map of Slovenia with solutions for breakthrough proposed by the ambassador companies, which the agency will use as a promotional tool at international events.
