Ljubljana, 24 December (STA) - Former ambassador Vladimir Gasparic will head the newly established economic diplomacy and development cooperation directorate at the Foreign Ministry, the government decided Thursday, almost three months after the directorate was established.
The Foreign Ministry has made economic diplomacy a cornerstone of Slovenian foreign policy as part of efforts to protect and promote the interests of Slovenian business abroad.
When the directorate was formed in October, the Foreign Ministry was granted exclusive jurisdiction of managing economic diplomacy, which had been shared with the Economy Ministry.
As part of the overhaul seven business representation offices under the wing of the Public Agency for Entrepreneurship and Foreign Investment will become part of Slovenia's diplomatic network, the Foreign Ministry said.
The new head of the directorate has served as ambassador to Singapore and China. He had also worked for Smelt International, as deputy chairman and head of its Beijing-based Far East office.
