Portorož, 14 October (STA) - Ways to leverage digital tools to boost tourism figures were in the focus of Tuesday's Tourism Forum, a mainstay of the annual Days of Slovenian Tourism.
Advances in technology open new communications channels before, during and after travel and social networks play an increasing role in decisions, said Aleksandra Jerebic Topolovec of the SPIRIT agency.
She said SPIRIT, which is tasked with promotion of tourism and FDI, was adjusting its activities to these changes by upgrading IT systems and improving cooperation with businesses.
Despite modest funding, Slovenian digital tourism is keeping pace with global trends and a multimedia portal will soon be established featuring photo stories promoting Slovenian destinations, according to her.
Karmen Novarlič, the head of Spirit's tourism sector, noted that innovative digital marketing was one of goals of the new three-year tourism strategy, whose overarching objective is to increase the number of overnight stays to 10 million by 2017.
Tomaž Klemenc, the acting director of SPIRIT, added that his agency would put greater emphasis on digital marketing as part of efforts to promote Slovenia as a tourist destination.
