Car sales in Slovenia up 3% in 2021

Ljubljana, 04 January (STA) - A total of 63,675 new cars and vans were registered in Slovenia last year, a 3.18% rise over 2020, when car sales plummeted by more than 25% as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, show the figures released by the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce (TZS).

While the number of new cars registered last year increased by a mere 0.58% to nearly 53,990, the number of new vans registered rose by almost 21% to nearly 9,690.

Volkswagen cars posted the highest rise, of almost 16% to 8,577, followed by Renault (+12%) and Škoda (+10%).

Renault's Clio was in the highest demand, with almost 2,490 cars sold, although the figure is still by almost 36% lower than in 2020.

The second most sought-after car model was Volkswagen's T-Cross, whose sales rose by 63% to almost 1,860, followed by Renault's Captur (just over 1,500), down 12% over 2020.

Among vans, Renault and Ford recorded the highest rises, of almost 27% and 21%, respectively, with the most popular models being Ford's Transit Custom and Renault's Master.
