    Ljubljana, 03 April (STA) - The coronavirus crisis has started to take a toll on the unemployment situation in Slovenia and what had been a favourable trend until recently has reversed. The number of people registered as unemployed grew by 0.5% to 77,855 in March compared to February, a 1.7% increase year-on-year.

  • NLB leadership proposing no dividend payout for the time being

    Ljubljana, 02 April (STA) - The supervisors of NLB okayed on Thursday the proposal of the management board to convene a shareholders meeting for 15 June. The country's leading bank, which was privatised last year, announced shareholders would vote on a proposal that the entire EUR 228.04 million in distributable profit remain undistributed for the time being.

  • Telekom sees 2019 profit eroded by buyout of media arm

    Ljubljana, 02 April (STA) - Telekom Slovenije, the majority state-owned telecoms incumbent, posted a group net profit of EUR 1.2 million for 2019, a fraction of the EUR 33.3 million it recorded a year before, largely due to a one-off payment over a now dissolved media joint venture.

  • BSH among first major Slovenian manufacturers to restart production

    Nazarje, 01 April (STA) - BSH Hišni Aparati, which was one of the first large manufacturers in Slovenia to halt production over the coronavirus epidemic, is also among the first to relaunch it. The company, the largest producer of small household appliances in Europe, operated at 15% of capacity on Monday and hopes to be at 50% next week.

  • Banka Slovenije expects 6-16% GDP contraction in 2020

    Ljubljana, 31 March (STA) - Issuing a preliminary estimate of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the Slovenian economy, Slovenia's central bank Banka Slovenije said on Tuesday that the cost will likely be higher than in the last global financial crisis. The central bank expects GDP to fall by between 6% and 16%.

    Ljubljana, 31 March (STA) - Tool maker group Unior saw its revenue rise by 3% to EUR 256 million last year, continuing a multi-year trend. Net profit dropped by 14% to EUR 10.4 million.

  • Housing prices up another 5.2% in 2019, but sale of new units modest

    Ljubljana, 30 March (STA) - Housing prices increased by 5.2% in 2019 in what was the fifth consecutive year of growth, show data released by the Statistics Office on Monday. The number of real estate transactions was up 4%, mostly on account of sold used flats, while the value of the deals amounted to EUR 1.3 billion, an increase of roughly 6% on 2018.
