CELJE INDUSTRIAL ZONE
The City of Celje is, with its 49,300 inhabitants and surface area of 95 km², the largest municipality in the Savinjska region, itself the third largest region in Slovenia, stretching from the Austrian to the Croatian border and covering 2,384km². Its rich cultural heritage is affirmation that the Celje area has always attracted people from different cultures and civilisations, people that have held land here, traded, travelled through or culturally interacted with the surroundings. The local nobility made good use of the opportunities available and in the 15th century elevated themselves to the level of princes and obtained lands and kinship ties stretching across Europe. This rich history is just one of the pillars on which the City of Celje is basing its business friendly, open, cooperative and innovative approach to potential investors, business partners and future inhabitants of Celje. In general, personnel policy and human resources management are a regional priority. The local economy has a high quality, well-qualified workforce. The education system in Celje is well developed from pre-school to the elementary to secondary school levels. Also significant is the proximity of the two Slovenian university centres. The city of Celje is also working on establishing a higher education centre and has already taken steps in this direction with the existing schools providing higher education courses and representing faculty departments from the universities of Ljubljana and Maribor. The Celje business zone covers 270,000km² and offers space to Slovenian and foreign investors. The available land is already connected to the public utilities network or will be soon. The available land belongs to the City of Celje and is included in its spatial development plans. Site map of Celje industrial park The east Celje business and industrial park is administered by the City of Celje’s planning and construction office. Investors can select individuals units with a minimum size of 1,000m² according to their requirements, while individual units can of course be combined to investor needs. Celje is one of Slovenia’s five European transport intersections and is located on the main route of Trans-European Transport Corridor V (Barcelona-Venice-Trieste-Ljubljana-Celje-Maribor-Budapest-Lvov-Kiev) and on a branch of Corridor X. Maribor airport is 50km away, Ljubljana-Brnik airport 78km, and Zagreb airport 110km. It is 63km to Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital city. The Čret regional freight terminal was listed in Slovenia’s top five terminals by the EU’s 1999 TINA study (Transport Infrastructure Needs Assessment). The business zone is very easy to access thanks to its location within Celje's main road network and the vicinity of rail infrastructure. Celje’s reputation as one of Slovenia’s most powerful economic centres stretches back for centuries. The rate of growth in added value in Celje is well above the regional and national averages. The city is well known for traditional craft and commercial activities and has been an important industrial centre since the second half of the 19th century. It is home to over 1,000 companies including many with majority foreign ownership (such as Baumax, Interspar, Linde Plin, Merkscha, and Weishaupt). Important commercial sectors include retail, chemical and metal processing, tool-making, transport and communications, graphics industry, information technology, exhibitions and fairs, and tourism.
