Retailer Lidl to open group-wide service centre in Maribor

Maribor, 10 January (STA) - German retailer Lidl plans to test launch this year a service centre in Slovenia's second largest city Maribor that would support all purchasing departments in the group. The centre could create about 100 jobs over two years, the company said on Tuesday.

The director of purchasing at Lidl Slovenija, Andrej Vouk, said this would be Lidl's first centre of its kind in Slovenia that would be shared with departments in 25 countries.

The key task would be to manage product and supplier data in a central system used by the entire group.

First hirings are planned for the coming months, with subsequent rounds to follow through the end of 2017.

The micro location has not been picked yet, according to the company's press release.

Lidl has been present in Slovenia since 2007. It has 49 outlets and employs a workforce of 1,300.
