CAPITAL MARKET

The regulation of the capital market is in accordance with the EU directives and meets the high standards of developed financial markets. Slovenia, as one of the first among the new Member States, adopted the Euro on January 2007, which will consequently simplify the investments of Euro zone investors into top Slovenian companies.

Ljubljana Stock Exchange

Ljubljana Stock Exchange (LjSE) was established on 26. December 1989 and operates two main markets: the official and semi-official market.

On the official market, only those securities that have been successfully offered to the public or whose further public sale has been approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) can be listed. Securities must be freely transferable, paid in full and approved by the Admissions Board.

Since October 2005, the official market was upgraded with a special market segment: the prime market. It is an elite listings venue for issuers renown for their liquidity, size and transparency of business operations and caters for the most prestigious Slovenian companies. Prime issuers are also bound to adhere to the highest disclosure standards, informing the domestic as well as the international public of their business operations.

The semi-official market is a segment of the organised securities market where securities that have been successfully offered to the public, or whose organised trading has been approved by the SEC, and that have not been listed on the official market are traded. The free market admissions procedure is rather simple and the trading of securities can start as soon as they are registered with the Central Securities Clearing Corporation (KDD).

Statistics

The Slovene Stock Exchange Index is the Ljubljana Stock Exchange total market index, measuring the performance of the entire Slovene organized securities market. It is aimed primarily at providing accumulated and credible information on the price movements of the biggest and most liquid shares on the official and semi-official market.

The Slovenian Stock Exchange Index SBI 20 gained an annual 78.13% between the 1st of January 2007 and the 31st of December 2007. As a result, over 140 companies are nowadays listed on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange, of which, however, only some 10 boast satisfactory liquidity.
