Lage und Transport
Jugovzhodna grenzt an Kroatien und ist durch Bahn- und Autobahnverbindungen gut angeschlossen an andere slowenische Regionen.

Städte
Die regionale Hauptstadt ist Novo Mesto (41.500). In Novo Mesto finden Sie mehrere (Fach-)Hochschulen, die Kurse in Maschinenbau, Elektrotechnik und Kommunalwirtschaft sowie für die Ausbildung von Sekretärinnen anbieten. Die meisten Studenten der Region studieren an der Universität von Ljubljana.
Andere wichtige Städte sind : Trebnje (18.700), Kočevje (16.700) und Črnomelj (14.800).
Wirtschaft
Viele große Unternehmen haben ihren Sitz in Jugovzhodna wie z.B. das pharmazeutische Unternehmen Krka, Adria Mobil, Trimo Trebnje (Fertigbauhäuser) und Revoz (Mehrheitseigentum von Renault). Fast 40% des regionalen BIP und 80% des Gesamtumsatzes werden in der Fertigungsindustrie generiert. Eine starke Exportorientierung ist typisch für Jugovzhodna: die lokalen Unternehmen erzielen 55% des Gesamtumsatzes im Ausland. Die Region erzielt 16% der slowenischen Exporte. Die wichtigsten Industriezweige sind:

Die wirtschaftlichen Aktivitäten konzentrieren sich auf Novo Mesto. Dort werden mehr als 75% des regionalen Umsatzes generiert. Die Ausgaben für F & E in Höhe von 3,4% des regionalen BIP im Jahr 2009 unterstrich die Bedeutung der F & E in der Region. Die Hauptquellen der Finanzierung wurden private Unternehmen.
